Welcome to 6th Grade Math!
This is my 8th year teaching this grade level
and I love the challenge of it!
I also am teaching 6th and 8th grade Math Intervention
groups working with kids needing practice in math skills.
A little about me. I have been teaching for about 30 years--wow I feel old now! I started in Sioux Center, Iowa teaching K-6 Special Education all areas. Then taught 4th grade for a year there. I then moved down to Adel and taught as an associate in Desoto in a Special Education room working with Down's Syndrome and Autistic children. Then taught there in 4th Gr Special Education. I moved to 1st grade at Minburn for 3 years for the ADM school district. In 2001, I got hired here at Panorama teaching 5th grade. My son was just starting Kindergarten which worked out well. I taught 5th grade for 2 years, 3rd grade for 3 years, and Title Math for 4 years. I moved down the hill to 6th grade in 2011 and this is my 8th year teaching this subject. Math is my favorite subject to teach!!
If you haven't heard, biking is my favorite pastime. I love biking the dirt trails that wind through the hills and trees. I have went to Minnesota and to Colorado to do some of these trails. I enjoy the scenery and the challenge of the hills. I have done 4 complete RAGBRAI and last year got sick so did not finish it but plan on doing so this next summer by bagging it on my own. We will see if that get's accomplished!
I have 2 children. Chase graduated in 2014 and after a short time at WITCC in Sioux City, decided he would join the NAVY. He has married and they have a house in Jacksonville, Florida. He is, however, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. Shelby graduated in 2015 and just graduated from University of Dubuque for nursing. She began teaching in Dubuque after graduation but just took a new position at Iowa City hospital in the ER which is where her passion is so that will be an interesting adventure.
We had 3 dogs..Abby the Golden Retriever, Squirt, the poodle and our newest addition, Lexi, the Yorkie. Golden's are my favorite dog and we raised several litters which was a fun time! I had to put our poodle down in March of 2019. Sad day! Our Yorkie was living with my aunt but due to her health issues I now have her back. She livens up my house! She loves chasing the deer in the neighborhood. I also have a cat, Sophie who stays away from the camera if possible. I love to hear animal stories from the kids!
Please contact me when any issues come up with your child's learning. The more we know, the better we can help them learn. It takes a team effort to help them be the best student they can be!!
