Students want to know “What college program will help me get a good job?“.  I ask visiting college representatives (up to 40 visit PHS each year) which of their programs had 100 percent job placement rates. Here are the college programs where all graduates get jobs with their degree -  
 
Des Moines Area Community College, DMACC Career Center, 2 year or less programs;

  • Gerontology Specialist; working with elderly people, national average annual salary for experienced position in 2010 was calculated to be $32,000 (DMACC did not report salary).

DRAKE UNIVERSITY – 2014 graduates in Musical Theater (33 students) had 100 percent job placement within this career area, also Marketing grads had an average placement rate of 98% - 2014
 
Indian Hills Community College, Ottumwa, 2 year programs;

  • Diesel Power Tech, 18 month AAS degree, will be employed in equipment areas including agriculture dealerships, trucking industry, locomotive companies, construction contractors & service/repair facilities (starting wage $14-$18/hour)
  • Laser/Electro-optics Technology; employed as engineering support, technical sales, medical applications, manufacturing & systems maintenance, $45k-56k/year
  • Robotics/Automation Technology; employed in industry as field service engineers, control technicians, programers, application engineers & electrical maintenance technicians, $40k-50k/year
  • Machine Technology; employed as machinists, CNC programmers, quality control technicians & too & die makers, $12 – $17/hour

Iowa Central Community College - industrial maintenance graduates are always getting good paying jobs (said to CW at 2015 business conference by ICCC admissions person).

  • UNI’s Department of Special Education currently offers a total of five different endorsements/minors to undergraduate and graduate students. Each of these programs addresses areas of high need as there continues to be a shortage of qualified special educators in Iowa and the nation.
