Panorama Panthers MS/HS Teacher Feature

MS/HS Teacher Feature...Karla Lane!
"I grew up south of Panora on a farm. We raised cattle and pigs and farmed corn and soybeans. In High School, I played Softball positions of 1st base and catcher. This was my favorite sport. I also was a thrower in Track, throwing shot put and discus.

I attended Northwestern College in Orange City. I have an B.A. in Elementary Education, as well as several Special Education Endorsements and a Reading Endorsement. I have taught many grades and subjects. I have taught K-6 Special Education and 4th grade in Sioux Center, Iowa. I was an associate in a Self-Contained Classroom in DeSoto. Then I taught 4th Grade Special Education there. I moved to teaching 1st Grade in Minburn. In 2000, I got hired here as a 5th Grade teacher. I moved to 3rd Grade. Then taught Title I Math as I really enjoy teaching Math. I have been teaching 6th grade Math for 7 years now.

I live here in Panora on the South side of town. I have 2 children. Chase is 22 and is in the Navy at Whidbey Island, Washington State. He is a technician in a P-8 Sub finder. My daughter, Shelby is 20 and a junior at University of Dubuque. She is majoring in nursing. She is also on the Track team there. She is a thrower and throws hammer/weight now and discus in the Spring. I enjoy going to her track meets on the weekends.

My passion is biking. I started in 2014 and have done the last 3 years on RAGBRAI. This will be my 4th year. It is a great way to enjoy a sunny day in the summer! I love seeing all the people, places, and events on each RAGBRAI. When not teaching or working my other job Genesis house here in Panora, you will find me on my bike on the trail or often on the roadways! Please don't run me over!"
